Skype Officially Replaces Windows Live Messenger

When you upgrade your Skype software from version 6 onwards, you will have to say goodbye to Windows Live Messenger. This is because Microsoft is phasing out Messenger in favor of Skype.

You will be prompt to merge the account. Once done, you will sign in using your Microsoft account.

In the Skype blog post, it has detailed the benefits or added features after merging the Windows Live Messenger.

Once you update to Skype, here are some of the other great features Messenger users can expect:

  • Broader device support for all platforms, including iPad and Android tablets
  • Instant messaging, video calling, and calling landlines and mobiles all in one place
  • Sharing screens
  • Video calling on mobile phones
  • Video calling with Facebook friends
  • Group video calling

Did I mention that it will uninstall Messenger? So, if you are new to Skype, try to get use to it. If you are not ready, not upgrade it.
