As we are drawing near to the Windows 8 launch, Skype took the opportunity to introduce Skype for Windows 8. It makes the best out of the Windows 8 experiences.

For example, you can snap Skype to the side bar and continue to do your work while chatting or video conferencing with your friends. If you have forgotten how to snap Skype to the sidebar, this 3 years old may be able to help.

Here is the video. Notice that Skype is integrated to the People App. It is the same experience with Windows Phone 8. So, I believe if you can get use to Windows 8, you will also be able to get use to Windows Phone 8.
