The Rise of the Telemedicine Robot, RP-VITA

iRobot, maker of the famous robot vacuum cleaner Roomba, announced the RP-VITA (Remote Presence Virtual + Independent Telemedicine Assistant), a partnership with In-Touch. This is the first time that  iRobot is venturing into the health care sector.


According to The Verge, the telepresence robot has to be controlled manually at this moment. It is designed to allow doctors to check in on patients remotely and has built in devices like electronic stethoscope. It also has Telemedicine to allow access to patient records.

The RP-VITA can be controlled via iPad app. In future, it should be able to move autonomously. You can check out the iRobot AVA which is the base for this RP-VITA or check out the video below.
