Facebook Acquires Instagram

This should be a news that many would not have expected. If you think that Instagram on Android is exciting news last week, this should be even more exciting. Facebook has acquired Instagram for US$1 billion.

From Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, he mentioned that they are not going to change anything on Instagram. I guess that is a good news. Previously, there are rumors that Facebook is building a photo app. Now, it seems that acquiring Instagram is a much better choice for Facebook.

Based on the information, nothing will be change (for now). However, I am not so sure if the fans of Instagram can take it or not. With the recent Instagram app for Android, there had been a lot of “noise” from Instagram fans as some think that the exclusiveness of it has been lost.

That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

I hope that with the acquisition, Instagram will speed up the development for Windows Phone.
