Canon Singapore launches the Cinema EOS South East Asia Tour 2012 with Vincent Laforet

Award-winning Photographer and Acclaimed Director Vincent Laforet introduces the Cinema EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera to Filmmakers in Asia

Singapore, 7 January, 2012 –Canon Singapore today showcased the Cinema EOS System in Asia for the first time as part of the Cinema EOS South East Asia Tour with Vincent Laforet, which will cover Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. The second leg of the tour will cover India.  The Cinema EOS system, which includes the Cinema EOS C300 digtal film camera, aims to empower filmmakers to fully explore their creativity, in line with the Cinema EOS theme – ‘Leave no story untold.’

Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer, Vincent Laforet, will showcase the Canon EOS C300 during his visit to South East Asia. He will share his experiences in making the transition from photography to film with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Vincent will also talk about his latest short film, Mobius, and share behind–the-scenes footage featuring him using the latest Canon EOS C300 professional digital cinema camera.

A Dazzling Debut for the Cinema EOS System

The Cinema EOS System targets a new area of imaging expression for Canon, building on the company’s 74-year history of innovation and expertise in the field of optical and imaging technology. Canon has earned accolades in the entertainment industry for the EOS 5D Mark II digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, launched in November 2008, which has been used in the production of blockbuster Hollywood motion pictures like Captain America: The First Avenger and hit television programs like House.

The Canon Cinema EOS System. which was first launched in Hollywood on 3^rd November 2011, introduces the EOS C300/C300 PL interchangeable-lens digital video camcorder, equipped with a Super 35-mm-equivalent CMOS sensor. Canon also introduces seven new 4K-ready EF Cinema Lenses—four zoom lenses and three fixed-focal-length models, which complement the company’s current diverse lineup of interchangeable EF lenses for EOS SLR cameras.

Canon’s new Cinema EOS System also offers compatibility with Canon’s wide array of high-performance EF lenses, provides cinematographers with a range of unprecedented creative possibilities in befitting the theme – ‘Leave no story untold.’

A journey that began with the EOS 5D Mark II

Born in 1975, Vincent began his photography career at a tender age of 15. His passion for photography led him to his first job as a photojournalist. By the time he was 25, he had established himself as the youngest staff photographer for The New York Times. A relentless forward-thinking approach to image-making and storytelling lands him the highly coveted Pulitzer Prize, for feature photography. An internationally acclaimed photographer and a Canon “Explorer of Light”, Vincent is also a pioneer of EOS movies, as he made his transition from photography into film with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 7D and 1D Mark IV.

When the EOS 5D Mark II was launched in October 2008, Vincent used the camera to develop a shot film called Reverie. The film created such a sensation in the local US film industry, that it paved the way for even more exciting works like Nocturne and Mobius.

Throughout the Cinema EOS tour, Vincent will share with industry peers and aspiring filmmakers his transition from being photographer to a commercial film director. He will also reveal the makings of his latest short film, Mobius and how he engaged the High Definition DSLRs and EOS C300 throughout the entire production.
