Experience the Before and After of Tsunami-affected areas in Japan through Street View

Google has took the initiative to digitally archive the areas of Northeastern Japan affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. In a special website, Memories for the Future, you can see the before and after Street View of the area.

On the Street View images, you can see a date print of the image taken (right hand bottom corner). Although Japan has restored much of the area, I can still see buildings that are destroyed.

In the case of the post-tsunami imagery of Japan, Google hopes this particular digital archiving project will be useful to researchers and scientists who study the effects of natural disasters. Google also believes that the imagery is a useful tool for anyone around the world who wants to better understand the extent of the damage.
