With Siri being the talking point for the new iPhone 4s, it is no wonder Siri-like applications received worldwide attention and download. I think nobody wants to be outdone by the other OSes. For Windows Phone, we have Tellme. For Apple, there is Siri. How about Android? Well, they have Speaktoit Assistant.
From my source, since the announcement of Siri on Apple iPhone 4s, Android users had been downloading Speaktoit Assistant. Here is the similarity of Speaktoit as compared to Siri.
1. Natural language – What sets Speaktoit (and presumably Siri) apart is the ability to converse in our human speaking style. The app understands conversational context and isn’t limited to a user’s input of a specific string of keywords. In short, you talk to it like a human, not a robot.
2. Functionality – In addition to just shooting the breeze, Speaktoit’s assistants can: send emails, send texts, look up information, post to Twitter, check you in places, update your Facebook, find news, look up traffic, look up weather, call people, take notes, add things to your calendar, translate foreign languages, help you find nearby places like bars (but not without reminding you to enjoy responsibly…), and tons more.
What is the difference?
1. An avatar with a personality – Whereas Siri is a faceless voice (no offense, Siri), Speaktoit lets you choose (or build) a cartoon avatar to converse with. It’s much more personal and fun (and is quick to throw back the sass if you step out of line with your requests).
2. New capabilities added quickly – Speaktoit depends on user suggestions for what to make their personal assistant stable learn next. For example, users wanted the assistant to play music, and the functionality is being rolled out today.

Strangely, the world got interested in speech recognition app on phones since the announcement of Siri. In fact, if you check the history, speech recognition or instruction has been around for a long time. It is the innovation of Apple that changes everything, just like the first iPhone. In near future, we will be talking to every appliances and electronics devices.
