Apple iPhone 4S in Singapore from 28th October, What’s Hot?

The announcement is made. No iPhone 5 for those who speculated. It is called iPhone 4S and looks exactly the same as iPhone 4 except with a better 8 Megapixel camera. However, what has changed is the internal. A better processor, a voice Assistant (Siri), a well designed antenna and comes in 64GB. Singapore will be getting it from 28th October while some fortunate countries will get it on 14th October.

Although we are not the first batch of countries, I am glad that we made it to the second batch.

Here is the first batch countries for iPhone 4S.

And here is the important part. What is the pricing? 16GB (USD199), 32GB (USD299), 64GB (USD399).

And yes, iPhone 4S comes with 64GB. So, what is so great about this iPhone 4S that looks exactly like iPhone 4?

Here are some features on iPhone 4S.

Features of iPhone 4S

Specifications

As you can see, Apple has upgraded the chip to A5 that has dual core processor, dual core graphics and up to 7x faster in terms of graphics.

It has a great battery life (according to Apple).

And the data loading speed has increased 2x (approximate) as compared to iPhone 4.

Antenna

Another great achievement is that Apple branded the iPhone 4S as a WorldPhone. It has incorporated a GSM antenna and CDMA antenna into one, which is great for people traveling to far off places like Afghanistan because they can then connect to Afghanistan’s “Telephone Systems International” network using the almost universal GSM antenna.

Camera

What is more interesting is the Camera. In the market, 8 Megapixels camera is becoming a norm. However, Apple has really raised the bar with iPhone 4S camera.

It has 5 elements on this tiny camera and a F2.4 aperture. That means it will perform well in low light condition. This is really a great surprise from Apple. And Apple has mentioned more features like Hybrid IR Filter, better color accuracy and more color uniformity. I have to admit I am already very impressed with iPhone 4 camera. This will really make a big differences in iPhone 4S.

And as many people has complained about the start-up speed of the camera, Apple has done something about it. See this chart for comparison on competitors’ camera. Very impressive 1.1 sec for first photo and 0.5 sec for subsequent photo.

Added to that, with iOS 5, users can double tap on the home button twice to get to the camera function. Apple has also added another role for the “+” volume button. It will become the shutter for the phone. Now, you get a physical button for the camera.

As for Video, iPhone 4S can record in Full HD (1080p), has video image stabilization and also temporal noise reduction.

AirPlay Mirroring

Another feature of iPhone 4S is the AirPlay Mirroring function. You can hook up wirelessly to a TV for showing off your great pictures and videos and most importantly, to play games on the big screen.

Siri – Voice Assistant

I believe this feature will be the talk on iPhone 4S. It is called Siri and Apple has touted it as the voice assistant and it works with built-in apps.

What it can do is really amazing. It can check weather, make appointment on calendar, send message, check currency and stock, search the web for information and etc just by talking to it. It is nothing we have seen elsewhere. Now you can even use it to type your message while you are driving or doing sports.

Siri is in beta and can works in 3 main languages (English (US, UK and Australia), French and Germany. I have doubt that our Singlish will work with it.

That is about it on the next iPhone announcement. No iPhone 5, no “wow” factors in the event, no Steve Jobs and seriously speaking, the pace is very slow and the excitement factor is not there. But as you can see, I am no fanboy of Apple, I may be wrong on the excitement thing.
