Japan May Be Using Standard SIM Card for All Phones

I remember the first time I visited Japan, I could not use my phone. To be able to use mobile phone, we would need to borrow a Japanese phone in Singapore and redirect your phone call to it. And you will need to book in advance. Now, with Japan embracing 3G, calling from Japan is a breeze. If Japan adopt the standard SIM Card, I guess more people will be buying phones in Japan. I love some of their phones. It has so many functions (but of course in Japanese).

I wonder when this will happen. If the Japanese carriers can unlock their SIM card to allow it to be used on different phones, it will be a win-win situation for all.
