Tour of Singapore Discovery Centre and SG Tidbits 365 Exhibtion

Thanks to 24Seven, we were able to visit Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) and SG Tidbits 365 exhibition. SDC has been around for such a long time and this is my first visit! It is better late then never. This may be my longest post till date and is picture intensive. Enjoy the exhibits and of course, Singapore Discovery Centre! ๐Ÿ™‚

Getting to Singapore Discovery Centre is very simple. Take the PIE, take Exit 40 and you will be able to see big signs to tell you where SDC is. Plus, parking is FREE! (A rare inย  Singapore). Of course, other transportation is equally accessible like MRT (Joo Koon MRT Station) and buses.

We we greeted by the friendly SDC staffs there.

We were then given an empty envelope. We were supposed to collect 9 postcards from SG Tidbits 365 exhibition while we tour the SDC.

DSC_7418m

Did you know that Singapore Discovery Centre is also showing movies? And the charge for each movie is only SG$7. They are now showing Christmas Carol too!

We were taken to the first stop for Singapore Tidbits 365 Exhibition.

That’s Claudia from 24Seven!

Next, we were guided to “So Singapore”. This is where everything (almost) Singaporeans like to do, talk are in here.

DSC_7460m

DSC_7461m

This hall way has all the Singlish (Singaporean English) words along it. Very insightful ๐Ÿ™‚

We were then ushered into “So Singapore Theatre” to watch a Singapore-laced movie and our Singapore icon, the Merlion.

After the short video, we went pass a few podcast stations and again, more information on Singapore. Here you can hear from Mr. Brown and others. According to SDC, podcast from Mr. Brown is not heard on his blog site but exclusive to SDC only. You will need to go there to listen.

DSC_7485m

We were then greeted by the biggest exhibits in SDC, the Spectacle.

DSC_7490m

DSC_7493m

To judge how big the Spectacle is, here is a shot of bloggers walking next to it.

DSC_7494m

In fact, inside the Spectacle is a very big multimedia wall where you can craft Singapore. You can dream about the city that you wanted. For example, more shopping in Orchard road and etc.

DSC_7544m

DSC_7663m

We proceed to an area where children can play with building blocks to build area for Singapore.

DSC_7504m

DSC_7503m

I guess many has since broadcasters talking with video streaming behind them. They are using the blue screen effect (some are green though) to super impose someone onto the video. In S’pore Discovery Centre, you can also do that.

Preparing for the activity.

DSC_7506m

Now, the results.

DSC_7508m

Next, we visit the Crisis Simulation Theatre. Imagine a bomb exploded at Raffles MRT. What can we do?

DSC_7526m

DSC_7519m

Of course, we have to rely on our agencies and ourselves to carry out the job. This is where the next exhibit come in. It is one of the latest showcase, Battlefield Command. In this exhibit (or game), you can become a commander of your troops, a Apache Helicopter pilot, UAV controller and etc. Very realistic.

DSC_7520m

DSC_7524m

How about learning Kungfu. Yet another blue screen effect exhibit. This time, you learn with a character on screen.

The end results.

DSC_7534m

We move in to another exhibit which allows us to peep into it to see more of Singapore. That is Victor waiting in line to view the peep hole. As bloggers, we take pictures wherever and whenever we can. The peep hole is no excuse ๐Ÿ™‚ .

DSC_7541m

DSC_7540m

Along the way, we were greeted by our friendly robot friend, Little George. BTW, he is not small in size. He is a joint project with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and he answers questions. Don’t expect complex questions to be answered.

We proceed to a Shooting Gallery. Mind you, this shooting gallery uses real weapons. We have the SAR21 (our standard weapon for Singapore Army) and the P226.

No real bullets were fired, Only simulation. But the recoil from the rifle and handgun is real.

Loading a magazine of 40 rounds and corking the weapon.

DSC_7639m

And here are our “enemy”. At the end of the session, you can see your score.

DSC_7644m

BTW, SDC has a lot of interesting stuffs on the wall. If you move around, spend some time on them.

We went off track a little bit during the tour to visit Crossfire, a paintball area which at this moment is undergoing revamp and maintenance.

DSC_7582m

You can can hide in the maze or castle. Should be very challenging.

DSC_7584m

We proceed back to our exhibition tour to another part of SG Tidbits 365 exhibit.

DSC_7606m

Here is how it looks inside the scope.

DSC_7604m

Another view.

DSC_7607m

I think it is a nice way to depict a multi Nationals, multi cultural society in Singapore. There are even dresses of different ethnic groups for you to try on.

DSC_7608m

DSC_7610m

Another exhibit that interest me is the giant flip book.

DSC_7613m

DSC_7614m

To show you how big it is, see my hand at the bottom rightย  corner.

DSC_7616m

On our way out, you can even write a post note about how you think about Singapore or some place that leave a special remembrance.

DSC_7620m

BTW, there is a actual UH-1 helicopter too.

DSC_7621m

DSC_7623m

Another exhibit is the Sama-Sama, Kawa-Kawan. You can listen to Singapore Music in this big Jukebox.

DSC_7628m

We proceed to the XD theatre, a 4D theatre. Very nice effect with the wind, vibration and seats movements. We have to strap ourselves to seat belts to avoid being “shake” our of our seats.

DSC_7423m

DSC_7636m

Finally, we proceed to the Paintball counter to have a feel of firing the Paintball gun.

Because of this visit, we were given a coupon to play this Paintball. We were given 5 paintball.
