What is Nokia thinking (although it is damn good for consumers)? They announced that they are going to provide turn-by-turn navigation software globally and they are going for free. Yes, FREE! And it will cover 74 countries in 46 languages and maps available over 180 countries. Wow! No other updates available but soon, more information will arrive.

This will be a big blow to maps maker, especially those that deal with GPS Navigation system. Google has actually made the rumored GPS Navigation Map. It has called the application, Maps for Mobile.
The application, specially built for mobile set has some features that is not found on current Navigation system. It took advantage of cloud computing and with its vast information via Google Maps, Street View and etc, it will be a powerful application.

If this news is true. It will hurt the map business by a bit. Rumors are saying that Google may be making a free (but ad supported) GPS Navigation map. However, there is no mention of release date or in fact, any other information.
However, if you think about it, Google Maps is already there and ready to be tapped and use. So, if Google giant is taking this step, I am sure Android users will be jumping with joy. The only bad thing I can foresee is that data usage will be high and if you travel to another country, it will be expensive to use data for navigation.

It has been quite a wait and I think iPhone fans were excited about it. Finally. TomTom Navigation has come to Apple iPhone 3G and 3Gs. For those who don’t know, TomTom is famous for its navigation software. Before the iPhone OS 3.0 released, there is no way to incorporate this navigational software into the iPhone.
