After some test on my Huawei E170 modem and advises from Starhub, I thought that my Starhub Huawei E170 Mobile Modem is already optimum and the speed is due to 3G connection.
I was totally wrong!
My friend just got hold of the new E1750 modem with Starhub, using the same 7.2Mb broadband plan. So, I tested out the speed using the same environment (different laptop, same model), IE8 and same website.

Updated: Results of Connection speed at various location at the end of the post
2 days ago, I was sitting at Starbucks Vivocity updating my blog. Of course, being a paid user for Starhub MaxMobile Ultimate (7.2Mbps), I took out my Huawei E170 (while the rest uses WirelessSG) dongle and being to surf. To my annoyance, I registered only a 15 to 30 kb/s speed. I tweeted about it and on Monday, StarHubCares (Ian) contacted me via Twitter and linked me up with Starhub Support. On Monday evening, I got a reply from them on how I can try to improve my connection speed. Here is the before and after experience after following the advice. Kudos to Starhub for being so spontaneous

In March, Starhub and Huawei made a press release to annouce that they are the first in the Asia-Pacific to have the HSPA+ Network which can bring the speed up to 21Mbps.
I tried to enter their trial but I was not selected. However, out of a rare coincidence, I managed to get the right person yesterday and today, I got hold of the 21Mbps Huawei E1820 USB Slider for 3 weeks as a Trial User.
