WalkCar Finally Ready for Pre-Order (Video)

Finally, the smallest PEV, WalkCar, is ready for pre-order and Singapore is one of the thirteen countries that Cocoa Motors will deliver it. This last-mile PEV or PMD is the only one that I have seen (so far) that weighs less 3kg and you are able to chuck it inside a shopping bag.

Check out the promo video.

Comparing to the first version that I blogged in 2015, there are some differences. however, I think the concept is still the same. Price-wise, it is not cheap. At USD1,280, some might argue that it is better to walk or take public transport.

The pre-order starts now (in fact since October 2016) and the delivery is expected to be in September 2017. At the moment, when you pre-order, there is no need for payment. When it is nearer to expected delivery date (I think), they will inform you on how to make the payment.

More about the WalkCar. If this is the first time you are seeing it, you might think that this is a cheap looking tray with wheels. But don’t let that fool you. Beneath it is a PEV/PMD that is capable of carrying a person that is between 40kg to 80kg. It has a maximum speed of 16km/hr.

Here are the specs:

  • Body Material: Carbon
  • Size: Laptop size – 13 inch
  • Max Speed: 16km/h II
  • Weight: 2.8kg
  • Charging time: 60 mins
  • Driving time: 60 mins III
Ⅱ  “Max speed” is the speed that can be attained under the conditions prescribed by Cocoa Motors. “Max speed” may be slower depending on the operating conditions or environmental conditions.
Ⅲ “Driving time” is the time that WalkCar can be operated when fully charged, and is a value that can be attained under predetermined conditions. (Speed: 6 km; Total weight: 60 kg; Smooth and dry road surface temperature: 15°C to 25°C)

Personally, the specs are not clear. One hour of driving time means how many kilometer? I think the real reason is because it depends on many factors to determine how far this small guy can travel. For example, it has to take account of the weight of the rider, the road condition, including the incline and etc, and most importantly, the condition of the WalkCar.
