Today (17th Jun 2014) is the first day of CommunicAsia 2014 in Singapore. I was glad to make it to the opening ceremony to listen to what’s the latest technology roadmap for Singapore. The message for Singapore is clear. We are on our way to become a “Smart Nation” in the coming years.

Mobility and Connectivity Breakthroughs at Asia’s Premier Industry Event for theICT and Broadcast Industries

SINGAPORE, 17 June 2014 – The region’s most established ICT, broadcast and digital media trade events, CommunicAsia2014, EnterpriseIT2014 and BroadcastAsia2014, opened today at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, with close to 2,000 exhibitors from more than 50 countries/regions showcasing a myriad of enabling technologies, innovations and products that will power up a smart and connected eco-system.

The four day event occupies all five levels of the convention centre and will welcome an estimated 50,000 attendees from around the world to visit the exhibitions, conferences and meetings.

Three new thematic clusters – NXT Cities, NXT Enterprises and NXT Connected Services expose visitors to a host of innovations and emerging technologies that will shape the future of our world. With a strong push from various government bodies across the globe to develop smart eco-systems, the new additions provide a comprehensive showcase of connected services that enable cities, governments, enterprises, people and machines to seamlessly connect with one another.

A “Smart Home”, “Smart Office” and “Smart Car” showcased within NXT Cities offers a glimpse of smart technology at work. The showcase features a fully automated and driverless vehicle, a mobile health diagnostic kit, mobile payment sticker technology and more.

RED Digital Cinema, a first time exhibitor, is featuring its highly anticipated SCARLET-X DRAGON that gives shooters the ability to capture motion video and still images at up to 30 frames per second in 5K or up to 1-12 frames per second in 6K.

Technology Tours

For the first time, technology tours will be conducted on 17 – 19 June to provide visitors with further depth into technologies that are trending in the current ICT and broadcast marketplaces. The tours are organised into three themes – OTT / Content Delivery Network, NXT Cities / NXT Enterprises, and 4K. Separately, the Satellite Interference Reduction Group (SIRG) will be hosting Carrier ID (CID) Tours at CommunicAsia and EnterpriseIT on 17 – 18 June to demonstrate the CID process’s three main stages which are Transmission, Detection and Resolution.
