Stay on LINE exclusively with StarHub

Singapore, 4 February 2014 – StarHub and global mobile platform LINE jointly unveiled Singapore’s first peace-of-mind LINE plan exclusively for StarHub Mobile pre-paid customers to chat, text and send over 10,000 LINE stickers and emoticons to their heart’s content at just 40 cents a day or $6 for a 30-day plan. Starting 15 February, customers can activate StarHub’s LINE plan by simply dialling *123# on their mobile phone.

“Singapore’s mobile pre-paid market has much room for further growth, especially in mobile data use. To fuel this growth amid evolving consumer communication needs, we are happy to be the first local telco to offer hassle-free access to one of the world’s most popular social platform at a very affordable rate. We believe our LINE plan will be well received by customers, as they increasingly rely on fun, innovative social messaging services and stay online for longer,” said Mr Chan Kin Hung, Head of Mobility, StarHub.

Surpassing 340 million global users recently, LINE’s popularity has been growing at an exponential rate since its initial launch in 2011. The mobile platform features user-friendly and dynamic services, ranging from its core messaging service to value-added features like LINE Games, LINE Camera and LINE Cards. With Singapore as a critical market to continue its global success, LINE plans to offer tailored services to Singapore consumers through its exclusive partnership with StarHub.

“Our partnership with StarHub will enable Singapore consumers to communicate with their loved ones in a convenient and dynamic way with LINE’s advanced features. Ever since our launch in Singapore last year, we have been searching for opportunities to offer localised services specially designed for Singapore users. Our partnership with StarHub is a foothold to further our business in this region, as LINE continuously develops features and local content to enrich user experience,” said Mr Simeon Cho, General Manager of LINE Business Development Division, LINE PLUS Corporation.

StarHub’s exclusive partnership with LINE has enabled both companies to extend their reach through cross engagement opportunities. The first activity took place last month when StarHub Mobile pre-paid subscribers enjoyed free access to LINE’s original Chinese New Year stickers days before official release. StarHub has also set up an official account on LINE, expanding its social media reach and giving users easy access to information about StarHub’s products and services.

Coming up next, StarHub and LINE have plans to organise exclusive LINE merchandise giveaways and offer special benefits to users of LINE’s suite of apps.
