Google has launches Google Chromebook Pixel in the US and UK. From their blog post and video, it seems that Google is now ready to shift to higer gear on Chromebooks.

A few years ago (2010), when I was invited to Google office in Singapore for an introduction on Chromebooks, I had the impression that Chromebook will be cheap and dispensable. One of the reasons is that everything is in the Cloud. With proper Internet connections, you can simply ditch your Chromebook, get another one and everything you had will be there once you logged on to your Google account.

One year later, we saw some companies that started to produce Google Chromebooks and Google has also made progress in making sure that some features can work offline.

Now, in 2013, Google launches the Google Chromebook Pixel at a price that is higher than some laptops. The WiFi version ($1,299 U.S. and £1,049 U.K.) will start shipping next week and the LTE version ($1,449) will ship in the U.S. in April.

Of course, the quality is undeniably good. But for that price, many would argue that they will buy a full laptop. Are you convince to get a Chromebook Pixel today? I am not (for that price).

Here is a video from the Chromebook Pixel team.
