HTC announces HTC One, SingTel, M1 and StarHub will get it (Video)

Finally, HTC announces their flagship phone model to the World. It is simply called HTC One, has the latest 1.7 GHz Snapdragon processor with Sense 5 UI, UltraPixel camera (large sensor) and much more. I will use this single post to highlight the “goodies” in this phone (based on specs and other information).

Introduction

HTC One with Sense 5 and a number of new features. Here is an intro video.

Hardware

  • Latest Snapdragon processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, quad-core, 1.7GHz
  • UltraPixel camera: has OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer), just 4-megapixels, BSI sensor, Pixel size 2.0 µm, Sensor size 1/3-inch
  • Speakers: Dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers (BoomSound)
  • Display: 4.7 inch, Full HD 1080p, 468 PPI
  • IR port: The on/off power switch is actually an IR port underneath it.
  • Chassis: The chassis is made of metal with zero gap. I think the line on the back (with Polycarbonate) is necessary for the antenna. The chambered edge looks like the one on iPhone 5 but cleverly without any paintwork to minimize the impact of scratches (this is my opinion, need to see the real thing to confirm).

Highlights

There are many new things that HTC has introduced. Here are some of them.

UltraPixel Camera

Although I have mentioned it in the hardware, I think it is one of the biggest features of the smartphone. I read the review on Engadget and here are some of the things I picked up.

  • 1/3-inch BSI sensor with 2µm pixels which absorb 330% more photons than the 1.1µm pixels typically found in modern handsets
  • Wide angle (28mm) f/2.0 autofocus lens
  • Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) – able to compensate for motion in 2 axes (pitch and yaw) up to 2,000 times per second
  • New image signal processor (ISP) called ImageChip 2, which enables continuous autofocus in less than 200ms

HTC BlinkFeed

From the look of it, feels like Flipboard. It gathers all the information/news on one page. BTW, it becomes your start page but you can easily go to the usual home page with a swipe to the left.

HTC Zoe

HTC Zoe is Vine-like in some way. It captures pictures (up to 20 photos) and 3-secs video. You can then see your photo gallery that makes the gallery more “lively”.

HTC Sense Voice

It has dual microphones that is supposedly to improve the call quality by comparing the ambient noise and boosting the in-call voice to compensate when needed.

  1. Available storage is less due to phone software.
  2. Network bands in regions other than Europe and Asia Pacific may be different, depending on the mobile operator and your location. Upload and download speeds also depend on the mobile operator.
  3. NFC availability depends on the mobile operator and your location. Please check with your mobile operator.
  4. Battery times (talk time, standby time, and more) are subject to network and phone usage.
A Standby time specification (“specification”) is an industry standard that is only intended to allow comparison of different mobile devices under the same circumstances. Power consumption in a standby state is strongly dependent on factors including but not limited to network, settings, location, movement, signal strength and cell traffic . Comparisons of different mobile devices using such a specification can therefore only be done in a controlled laboratory environment . When using any mobile device in real life circumstances for which the mobile device is intended, the standby time could be considerably lower and will be strongly dependent on the factors as mentioned above.
Note: Specifications are subject to change without prior notice.

Availability

Based on the information, some areas will get it from March 2013. And from one of the pictures from Engadget, it seems that all our 3 Singapore Telcos will get it (can you spot their logo?). It comes in Black or Silver with 32GB/64GB (need to confirm).

Summary

Looks like a great phone from HTC. Can’t wait to get a hands-on on it. Hopefully, it will have LTE in Singapore. With the awesome specs, it will be a strong competition amongst the other brands. We shall see if Samsung GALAXY S4 can beat that or not.
