Lenovo showcased Yoga 11s and ThinkPad Helix

At CES 2013, Lenovo showcased the Yoga 11s and ThinkPad Helix. Both are 11.6-inch Ultraportables running on Windows 8. Yoga 11s is the smaller screen version of Yoga 13 and ThinkPad Helix has a “Rip and Flip” design that is something new.

BTW, there is also Yoga 11 that is running on Windows RT. As the name implies, Yoga 11s can be flip to be used as a tablet (with the keyboard facing down). Yoga 11s is running on Core i5. It supports up to 8 GB of RAM and up to a 256 GB SSD for storage. and will be on sale in June with the starting price of USD799.

ThinkPad Helix

Actually I am more interested in ThinkPad Helix. It is a tablet and has a keyboard base with internal battery. You can detach the tablet and use it as a standalone. The ThinkPad Helix will have a battery life of five hours in tablet mode and will have up to 10 hours battery life when attached to the keyboard base. What is unique and interesting is the “rip and flip” feature. You can flip the tablet to face the other side and still connect to the base.  In this way, you can either use the base as a stand (for small group presentation) or fully flip it to use as a tablet so that you can have 10 hours of battery life (and with the keyboard facing inside – important for me). If it has cellular capability, it will be perfect.

The ThinkPad Helix supports Intel Core i7 processors, up to 8 GB of RAM and up to a 256 GB SSD. It will also come with a digitizer pen for more precise interface control. It will be released in late February with prices starting at USD1,499.
