Greenviron LED Lighting Replaces Fluorescent Lights at Home

Found this company, Greenviron, tucked at the last hall of Sitex 2011. Not many people were visiting it as it is selling home lighting and other gadgets. On closer inspection, you realized that this company is all about GREEN. Here is one product that I bought.

This is actually an LED light that is a replacement for the usual 32W lighting in the house. If I am correct, the LED is actually similar to those in the torch light (like the CREE Light).

From my understanding with Greenviron people, it uses 17W but has the same brightness as  a 32W fluorescent light. It has natural or white light. The one that I bought is white light.

Here is a view of the back. Not a pretty sight actually.

A close up of the vent.

This LED light is built to be similar to the usual round fluorescent light, with the standard 4-pin connection. What you need to take note is that for a normal fluorescent light, you will need a starter and a ballast to work. For this Greenviron LED light, you don’t need them. In fact, you have to be sure to remove the starter first or it might cause damage to the driver in the LED light.

From the above picture, I hope that you can see that there is no more starter. I removed it. As for the ballast, it is up to you to remove it. For those who are not sure, leave it there. So, in short, remove old lamp, remove starter, replace lamp with LED light. That is all.

Here is a close up of the LED.

From my understanding, when one or a few of the LED fails, it will not cause the lamp to fail. I have yet to prove it. And here is the information some of you might be waiting for, “How much?”.

Don’t be shocked. For the 32W equivalent, it costs S$100 and the 40W equivalent, it costs S$120 (I think). Not cheap at all but it has 10 times the lifetime of a normal fluorescent lighting and it reduces the energy usage (savings) on the long run.

I hope that the price will come down when more people or companies started to use this technology. The mission statement for Greenviron is : “To educate, and promote an affordable, compatible and sustainable environmental friendly lifestyle…”. Nice. They have other green products. I do not know if there are other companies selling such products. If you know, please share with me.
