Jawbone Jambox Wireless Speaker Review – Video Within

This is my review on Jawbone Jambox. Jambox is a Bluetooth speaker with a built in microphone. It is small in size but produces very nice audio.

First Impression

My unit is RED in color (which I like). It has only 3 buttons on this wireless speaker.

The “+” and “-” are for volume control and the round button is actually the “Talk” button. Yes, it can be used as a phone speaker. It has built in mic which you can utilize it on your computer, tablet or smartphone.

The other inputs are the MicroUSB port for charging or synchronization, the 3.5mm jack for direct connection to devices and the ON/OFF switch.

The speaker grill are on four sides. It has “dimple-like” design which I think is very stylish (for RED one. Every color will have a different design).

The Package

Like the Jawbone ICON, the Jawbone Jambox comes in a very nice package. I guess what is important is the accessories provided.

Usage

Pairing this Jambox is very simple. If you know how to pair a bluetooth headset, you will know how to pair the Jambox. I tried Jambox on a few devices, Windows 7, Windows Phone 7 and iPad

In terms of pairing, it is a breeze for all the devices. The sound from the Jambox is amazing. In my opinion, the treble and bass that it produces is really good (I compare it with other speakers that I used on these devices before).

The bass is strong, the treble is clean and the music sounds a lot better than playing from the phone or iPad.

Here is a video on the Jambox pairing with my Windows Phone 7.

The good thing about Jawbone devices is that firmware can be upgraded and apps can be added using MyTalk (Beta). In the video, you can hear a woman voice. You can actually change it using MyTalk (Beta). Check out the Jawbone ICON review for more information about MyTalk.

During the test, I tried to play different media on the devices. However, I realized that it cannot play sound from the video on my smartphone. I tried on iPad and Windows 7 computer and they works flawlessly. I think it has to do with the A2DP format which recognizes music format but not video.

Another thing about it is that when I tried to play Garage Band on the iPad, it will not work on the Jambox. Other than this, the sound is really awesome when playing games with it.

Summary

Overall, I love the design of Jambox. Out of the people that I showed the Jambox, all of them like the design and the sound produced. However, when they realized the price (S$328), they think that it is steep.

As for me, I think that the people need to look beyond this Jambox as just a wireless speaker. It has built in Mic, a software that is upgradeable, a nice audio output, good design and the size fits nicely on the palm. And yes, I think the price is steep.

With it, you can actually use social software like Skype and MSN to communicate with friends. Trust me, it sounds really nice with Jambox.

On a final note, I guess Jawbone Jambox is not for everyone. If you uses multiple platforms, wish to have good audio or would like to communicate on speakerphone, this Jambox might be just right for you.
