Google has sent me a very simple guide to ensure 3G connectivity that many are facing world wide. When I looked at the solution, it is just setting issues. So, let me know if you have questions so that I can direct them to Google. It is quite simple actually
. Cheers to Google for taking this initiative to issue this statement.
Here is how you can do it. Read this cut and paste instruction.
GOOGLE STATEMENT – Nexus One 3G connectivity for SG
There have been several media reports about 3G connectivity issues with the Nexus One. Firstly, we do apologize for any inconvenience and confusion caused to our users. There is a very simple solution for Nexus One owners in Singapore. For SingTel customers, the Nexus One should auto-connect to their 3G network. For Starhub and M1 customers, they will need to enter in their APN settings to connect to their 3G network. This can be done by any user in less than a minute:
1. Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
2. Hit Menu button, create new APN.
3. Enter new APN settings. See below for the details.
4. Hit Menu button, save settings.
5. Select the new APN name, then hit the home button. Your 3G connection will shortly appear in the top bar.
As the Nexus One is an unlocked device purchased online at www.google.com/phone, ideally the first place for users to look for support is the help section on this site which includes how-to videos, feature overviews, ordering/payment/set-up/warranty info, a user’s guide and help forum.
If users can’t find the answers they need, they can call the HTC Support line in Singapore at 1-800-238-7788 from 8am-8pm, Monday to Saturday. HTC is providing local support and repair services for Nexus One.
Again, our sincerest apologies to our Nexus One users in Singapore if they are having any problems connecting to their telecom operator’s 3G network. We hope this simple solution will help them to enjoy the full Internet experience and the innovative mobile features of their new Nexus One phones in Singapore.

Still no news on the release of Nexus One by our local telcos? Does that means that we can ONLY buy Nexus One online?
January 11th, 2010 at 12:56 am
Not that I heard of. At this moment, yes, online purchase is the only way.
January 11th, 2010 at 9:53 am
I see.. Thanks.. I’ll have to stick to your blog for any latest news then.. =)

Hi,
Do you know the Nexus One version they ship to Singapore will be able to tether or have multitouch? I know the European version is multitouch capable. I need tethering!!!!
Thanks!
January 13th, 2010 at 9:23 am
Hi, John, I have no idea. But since HTC Hero (or before), tethering is there. So I guess Nexus One should have. Anyone can verify??
January 14th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
I’d also like to know if we can tether, multi-touch, and multitask. It’s a bit confusing with all these articles out there claiming that the European versions have this capability.
1. Is this a hardware/software limitation?
2. Why restrict the US market?
3. If we order from Singapore, do we get a US or European version?
If the above 3 features are intact, I’m sold and is ready to convert from iPhone to Nexus1.

I am the proud owner of a nexus one! I especially like the engraving, I think that’s a nice touch.
But …. how do I -
1. Cut and paste? Can it even be done?
2. Sync with Outlook? All my data is there!

I am just wondering if SE X10 can be better than Nexus One. By looking at the UI, the X10 seems more cool than Nexus One. The hardware spec and Android version are not confirmed in X10, it may be running 2.1 on snapdragon too?
January 16th, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Not very sure. But since the Android 2.1 SDK is out for developers, I think the newer handset should get it.

How long did your phones take to arrive? (From clicking submit in order page to actually holding in your hands)
February 2nd, 2010 at 9:19 am
hothunt: I did not purchase the Nexus One. The closest I got is playing with it in Google Office.
February 5th, 2010 at 10:50 am
I heard that the latest firmware update fr nexus is out and it allows for multitouch.. I also heard that the 3G issue had been improved too.. =) btw, any idea what’s the cheapest way to get the N1? Some guy in HWZ was sayign he could get it for $429, some say using ocbc credit card to pay will allow you to pay less for the credit card charges.. mm..
February 5th, 2010 at 11:07 am
So far, I guess the only way to buy legally is online through Google store. S’pore telcos have not made any comments on whether they will bring in the N1 or not.
Anyway, if HWZ guys can get it at $429 (Sing dollar?), it will be a steal.

Juz wondering.. if we receive the phone in a poor condition, what shall we do? go down to the nearest htc service centre? will thye do a 1 for 1 exchange? or will they send back to google for us?
February 9th, 2010 at 3:23 am
Hi hothunt,
For my case it took 6 days to arrive. (From clicking submit in order page to actually holding in your hands)
Hi ernest,
Multitouch = Yes. It works the same as iPhones.
3G improve = Not really sure if it DID improve. But it is really damn fast as compared to my previous HTC Hero. (I’m using Starhub network)
If the phone is poor condition, e.g. hardware failure, you got to send it to HTC. Not sure if they will do a 1 for 1. I doubt so though..
BTW the phone is really cool.. I bought the dock too.. it’s really worth it.. =D

SuhChyuan: Thanks for the information. Appreciate it. It will benefit many people.

Hi Joe,
You’re welcome. I just like to share my experience with Nexus One since there are so many questions about it. I thought of tweeting or writing my own experience on my blog, especially about those things there were not mentioned before… e.g the phone function sux.. haha..
BTW I hope you can help the Nexus One “community” in SG by posting some questions to Google. 1)When will Google enable the Google Map Navigation in Singapore? Any dates? 2) When will Google allow paid apps to be sold in Android Market for Singapore Users? 3) What are the settings to enable receiving/sending of MMS? The above settings only allows you to browse web, but not MMS. I’m Starhub user.
Hope they can give a good reply to a professional blogger like you lor.. =D

Hi, SuhChyuan,
Some answers to your questions (I rephrase it and send to Google PR). Here are the reply. Do not that these are replies to me and not endorsed by Google. However, the source that I contacted has good connection with them.
1)When will Google enable the Google Map turn-by-turn Navigation in Singapore? Any dates?
Answer: No updates yet!
2) When will Google allow paid apps to be sold in Android Market for Singapore Users?
Answer: This WILL happen for sure but date TBC.
3) What are the settings to enable receiving/sending of MMS? The recent settings only allows you to browse web, but not MMS. (currently, this question is from a Starhub user).
Answer: Alfred from Techgoondu figured it out – http://www.techgoondu.com/2010/01/30/goondu-out-of-box-guide-for-nexus-one/
Hope that helps

Woah!! Joe you’re so efficient!! =D Thanks!!!
The MMS guide works! =D
Sigh.. expected reply from Google. Got to wait again.. =(
Anyway thanks for your help Joe!!
Ernest unless you are holding an iPhone and you can’t live without it.. =P.. I suggest you to just get the Nexus One..no need to consider already!! because this super phone is really fantastic.. Even my iPhoney friends are envious. Don’t forget to get a screen protector for your phone online too!.. I got mine from ZAGG.. =)
February 11th, 2010 at 1:22 am
SuhChyuan: Glad to hear that the MMS is working. BTW, is your Buzz working on Nexus One?
February 11th, 2010 at 9:30 am
Nope it doesn’t work..
It is suppose to work after you upgrade the Google Maps to version 4.0. According to the change log, there is a Buzz layer. But it didn’t appear.. =(
Nevertheless can use the browser from Nexux One to go into Buzz via http://buzz.google.com It’s quite like an iPhone-alike interface.

Hello all,
I like to ask when nexus receives a SMS/ call, will the phone vibrate?
I heard it is not able to.
Warmest Regards,
Ervin
February 26th, 2010 at 12:50 am
Ervin: Sorry, I do not have Nexus One. So, I am unable to provide this answer. I think this is not a very difficult task for the phone to vibrate when receiving call or SMS. Anyone can help??
