Press Release

Support for new Windows 7 features in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 are fully compatible with Windows 7, Microsoft’s new operating system. Not only are all product features, including Safe Run (running applications in a protected virtual environment) available in Windows 7 but both products also support new Windows 7 features such as:

1.      Scanning files in virtual libraries for malware

2.      XP Mode support

(1) Scanning files in virtual libraries for malware

Windows 7 includes a new feature – support for libraries of virtual files that are grouped by type (music, documents, etc.) without moving them to a different location on the hard drive.

In the screenshot below, the menu on the left shows several virtual libraries:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 allow the user to scan files in these libraries irrespective of their physical location in the system. All the user needs to do is select “Libraries” in the list of objects to be scanned, as shown in the screenshot below:

The files in the virtual libraries will then be scanned.

(2) XP Mode support

Windows 7 includes an XP Mode that supports the launch of Windows XP in a virtual environment. This provides full compatibility with all software designed for Windows XP, which is important for users of older programs that were not designed with Windows Vista and 7 in mind. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 or Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 can be installed on this virtual version of Windows XP, providing the user with complete protection from hacker attacks and malicious software.

Installation in a virtual environment is easy:

1.      First, download the distribution packages for Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode from Microsoft’s website and install them on the computer.

2.      Install Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 or Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 in the Windows XP virtual environment.
