HTC To Sell Android Ophone in China

Posted on 26 May 2009 by Joe Teh

HTC has announced that they are going to sell Android phone to China Market. Currently, the plan seems to be HTC Magic that was recently announced in Singapore. It will be rebrand as Ophone (referring to Open Mobile System, the name for China Mobile’s customized version of Google’s mobile operating system). The selected Telco is China Mobile.

This will be a boom to HTC as the China market is BIG! Based on Cnet news, there are over 415 million subscribers for China Mobile. And HTC mentioned that it may not be the only supplier of this Ophone.

I am wondering if the customized Android software will be stripped off the Wifi ability. This has happened to many phones that were marketed over there (due to their data contract). Anyway, we should be getting more information and images on the China Ophone.
