Singapore MobileOne (M1) Raised Their Bar on Mobile BroadBand Speed

Posted on 10 November 2008 by Joe Teh

The war has just started. M1 had announced that they had increased their Mobile Broadband downlink speed to 14.4 Mbps and uplink speed to 5.76 Mbps. That is a significant increased given that their usual is 3.6 Mbps uplink and 2Mbps downlinks.

They are able to do that because they had just upgraded their HSPA (High Speed Packet Access). In layman term, M1 customers is going to get faster Internet access speed on their Mobile Device. Existing customers are upgraded automatically from 3.6 Mbps to 7.2Mbps

However, on a side note, currently the market does not have such high speed device to fully utilise the bandwidth. But what the heck, the more the merrier right??

Before you jump to it, I understand that Starhub and Singnet are undergoing the same transformation too. And if I am not wrong, Singnet will have access speed of more than 40 Mbps.

I will try to dig up the news later.

Below are the broadband plan (more at their sites, e.g. short term 6 months contract and etc)

I intend to take a look at other alternatives. The M1 broadband doesn’t lag in youtube nor any streaming media unlike starhub 8mnps
