While the retail price of Samsung Omnia was set at S$1098 before the start of CommunicAsia 2008, I have a shock when I read the Straits Times today.

Starhub is leading the game witha price tag of the Samsung Omnia at just S$298 with S$200 trade-in. Of course there are terms.
Terms and condition
1. PowerValue 300/ Powerconnect with S$200 trade-in .
2. 2 years 3G mobile voice plan.
BTW, I saw a small prints that says pre-order only @ Ngee Ann Civic Plaza Roadshow
Some links of those who is unsure what the buzz is all about Samsung Omnia.

Hi, bill, PowerValue xxx is actually one of Singapore Telcos Mobile Phone billing plan. Here’s the link to understand more about the plan.

Hope that this information is enough for you.
Are phones from Starbub locked to their network? can this be used in other countries with local GSM providers
They are not locked to the network. Singapore would not allow that too. However, you would need to sign a contract with them for 2 yrs if you want to buy the set at that price. That’s means monthly subscription.
thanx for the info.
but one more question… i’ve been hearing from places that the price of i900 is like S$ 1000 ($700-800). yet here, $298?
is this smth that i can get from the states at this price currently? a little suspicious…
As the promotion is to increase or improve subscription to Starhub, it is normal in Singapore Telcos to do this to “tie” the person to the company. It is true that the set is at S$298 but with a 2 yrs plan, a trade in mobile phone that must be worth S$200 and etc.
This month, Singapore had just started the phone number portability (means if you join any telcos, you can retain your current number). The competition is therefore very “hot”.
